Orthophotos are digital aerial photographs in which the systematic distortions caused by the central projection, terrain relief and an image acquisition axis that is not always perfectly vertical have been corrected. The national orthophoto coverage is renewed annually. This view service makes it possible to visualise the national orthophoto mosaics for multiple acquisition campaigns from 2016 onwards for the entire territory of Belgium. A separate layer is published for each available year. In the current version of the service, the series of yearly layers runs from 2016 up to and including 2023, with 2023 being the most recent orthophoto coverage in this view service. For the 2016–2021 campaigns, the orthophotos have a spatial resolution of 25 cm throughout Belgium. From the 2022 campaign onwards, the resolution is 25 cm in Wallonia and 15 cm in Flanders and the Brussels-Capital Region. The view service is directly based on the orthophoto datasets of the Belgian administrative Regions, which are harmonised by NGI into a single national coverage without applying additional radiometric corrections. The orthophoto coverage is provided through this Web Map Service (WMS) and is intended for visualisation and use as a background map. For downloading the most recent orthophoto mosaics, reference is made to the associated dataset and download service “Orthophoto”.

Mapindex is a WMS which allows viewing the regular index grid which has been defined on five levels for the entire Belgian territory. It has been defined in order to allow a zonal geolocation. The present version is a beta version (v2) which is submitted to the emergency services. It will evolve to a standard cartographic grid.

CartoWeb.be is a Web Service (WMTS/WMS) containing cartographic representations covering 11 scale levels. CartoWeb.be offers a cartographic representation which has been developed specifically for on-screen viewing of the NGI’s most recent vector data sets. Three versions are available for the Belgian territory: 1) a TOPO layer containing a cartographic representation at all scales; 2) a TOPO-GREY layer, which is the symbolisation in different shades of grey and blue of the TOPO layer. It constitutes an ideal map background; 3) an OVERLAY (1:2 500 - 1:25 000) layer destined to be used as an overlay on other data (orthophotographs for instance). This layer contains the symbolisation of a few layers only. Two other layers, CROSSBORDER and CROSSBORDER-GREY, are available in order to allow viewing (only on the smallest scales 1:100 000 – 1:4 000 000) the European context of Belgium. The extent of this representation is limited and could change in the following versions. It is best to combine the CROSSBORDER layer with the TOPO layer. It is best to combine the CROSSBORDER-GREY layer with the TOPO-GREY-layer.

The Solar Ultraviolet - Visible Irradiance Monitoring network (SUVIM) is formed of observation stations operated by the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (IASB-BIRA). At each station, UV solar radiation is measured by several instruments. The network produces UV indices, solar irradiances and ancillary measurements such as meteorological conditions at the stations in quasi-real time. The SUVIM Station Network dataset includes information on the stations. It does not include the measured data, which form the SUVIM Observations dataset.

INSPIRE compliant view service for geographic information of general marine datasets made available by the Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences (RBINS). More specific products such as the Marine Spatial Plan and the MSFD data are provided by other WMS services.

This web service allows visualization of the Points Of Interest (POI) indicating the location of places of interest in Belgium, collected by NGI. The dataset consists of 97 POI types grouped into 6 classes (natural elements, religious elements, patrimonial elements, elements of general interest, infrastructures, economy).

The service makes it possible to view the aerial photos with orthorectification taken by Hansa Luftbild at NGI's request following the floods of July 2021 in the areas of the Vesdre, part of the Meuse downstream of Liège and the Demer. The resolution of the original data is 6.5 cm (4 cm above the Hoëgne). The service allows the images to be viewed at a maximum resolution of 25 cm. Orthophotos are digital aerial photographs in which the systematic distortions due to the central projection, relief and the not always perfectly vertical axis of shooting have been corrected. The orthophoto thereby obtained is metrically more accurate than an ordinary aerial photograph and is highly valuable as basic information.
