- Statement
- INCA (Integrated Nowcasting through Comprehensive Analysis) is a nowcasting system for the analysis and nowcasts of several meteorological fields, like temperature, humidity, wind, precipitation and cloudiness, and some derived fields like precipitation type, wind chill, height of the freezing level and visibility. For the calculation of these fields, INCA ingests a wide range of observational and model data: radar composites, data from automatic weather stations, satellite data and NWP output. The nowcasts of the fields gradually converge towards the NWP forecast for longer lead times. INCA has been developed at the national meteorological service of Austria (ZAMG); INCA-BE is the implementation of this system for Belgium. Since the start of its implementation in 2010, the system has been heavily modified and improved, including: a nowcast of the lightning activity based on the BELLS network, the addition of an uncertainty plume to the precipitation forecast, and the addition of hail as a supplementary precipitation type in the precipitation type forecast. Apart from these system extensions, a complete new module was added to the system as well: the nowcast of 10m wind gusts.
