- The samples were collected during a regular monitoring campaign along a coastal-offshore transect. For sediment: microlitter samples were collected in triplicate using either a Reineck box corer or a Van Veen grab, taking the top 5cm; on board, samples were stored in glass jars at -20°C until processed, then underwent digestion, density separation and filtration onto glass fibre filters for visual observation under a stereomicroscope, with a subset analyzed by µFTIR for QC and chemical identification. For seawater: subsurface seawater was collected through the vessel's continuous seawater inlet (-3m), filtered on board on a 100µm sieve and stored in glass bottles at -20°C until processed, then filtered on glass fibre filters for visual observation under a stereomicroscope, with a subset analyzed by µFTIR for QC and chemical identification. In both cases, measures against contamination were taken at all steps and negative controls were run alongside samples to calculate the limit of detection (LOD). Data collection started in 2020. Sediment: Reineck box corer or Van Veen grab; Seawater: vessel continuous seawater inlet (-3m) with 100µm sieve. Stereomicroscope for visual particle observation; µFTIR imaging for chemical identification and QC of particles.
