- Statement
- Data are collected following ICES standardized protocols, including calibration of trawl gear, data validation, and quality control checks (ISO17025-based national QC standard). ICES applies consistency checks to ensure comparability across different surveys and years. Data undergoes post-survey validation to minimize errors in species identification, length measurements, and abundance estimates. Data is collected under national and international fisheries research programs coordinated by ICES member countries. The Belgian Beam Trawl Survey (BTS) is funded under the National Data Gathering Program. The BTS has been conducted annually since 1993 (continuous time series; the survey itself started in 1992). Bottom trawl (4m beam trawl, 40mm cod-end mesh). Measurement boards for fish length (in-house SmartFish measuring board), environmental sensors, data-entry systems (Smartfish database).
