Top10Vector – Land cover and vegetation
‘Top10Vector – Land cover and Vegetation’ is the vector dataset of the land use categories of undeveloped land areas in Belgium. This dataset comprises 3 feature types, namely isolated [LC_isolatedvegetation] and linear [LC_linearvegetation] vegetation and land cover zones [LC_landcoverzone].

Top10Vector is a vector dataset containing the NGI's geometrically most accurate and semantically most detailed topo-geographic vector data. The data originate from the topo-geographic inventory of the Belgian territory (ITGI) which was build and is maintained by the National Geographic Institute. The dataset contains 35 feature classes, which are grouped in eight themes: road network, railway network, hydrography, high-voltage network, constructions, land cover and vegetation, local relief and particular zones. The geometry of the data of all these themes is described by x, y, z-coordinates. Top10Vector is available for the entire Belgian territory and can be supplied in the form of GeoPackage or Shapefile.

LC_GroundLevelLandcoverZone: the data have been collected during field campaigns and transcribed on black and white aerial photographs at the scale of 1:10 000. The limits of the parcels have been plotted on black and white flights at the scales of 1:21 000 or 1:40 000, depending on the areas and the years. Afterwards, the parcels and their identification have been structured into an homogeneous polygonal 2D layer (XY geometry in the Belgian Lambert 1972 projection).
In 2006-2008, this layer has been restructured and converted into 3D (2D + Z) by geometric correlation with the old plotting data and a DTM. The data have been converted into a Belgian Lambert 2008 projection system.

Field completion: field teams systematically roam the zone concerned and transcribe the information on black and white aerial photographs at the scale of 1:10 000. The information corresponds to a classification of the soil us, based on different criteria (size, function, cover, form, etc,).

Dataloading: After a reorganization of the data model, all data are restructured (new codes for the attributes, different projection system, enrichment of the geometries from 2D tot 3D). This restructuring is mainly done automatically.
